The A.P.C. New Standard Jean is made with Japanese raw stretch denim. Interestingly enough, the jeans are unisex. Ive never worn unisex jeans before and Im not quite sure how they managed to create a fit suitable for both men and women.
Furthermore, its a straight leg jean with the classic five pocket styling and button fly. The first button is engraved A.P.C. rue Madame près du Luxembourg. Has contrasting caramel-colored topstitching. The New Standard jean fabric definitely had the indigo selvedge denim look.

To be clear, when we say skinny jeans, this should not be denim so tight you can make out what state your ID is from your back pocket. As of late, most skinny jeans have evolved into a tapered or super-slim straight leg, which is flattering on a ton of different body types.

Rag & Bone Fit 2 Porter Slim Fit Jeans
The Fit 2 Porter Slim Fit Dark Indigo Authentic Stretch Jean is one of Rag & Bones most popular jean fits. Its made with 11.5 ounce Japanese selvedge-inspired stretch denim.
Its a slim fit jean that fits true to size with an 11 front rise, 32 inseam and 13.5 leg opening. The jeans have a navy rag & bone thread set up with eggshell stitch embroidery.

And now onto one of my favorites, dark wash indigo jeans, forever a classic. It can surely amp up those workwear vibes to any fit. Dark wash denim is ultra-versatile, you can easily dress it up or down, day or night.
Staying true to Under 510s focus on comfort, the stretch on the Xavier is on par with its other jeans styles. It has a slim, tapered fit thats certainly my favorite jeans fit in their entire collection.
Its a nice middle ground between skinny and straight, fitting like a true slim jean. Some of the other fits like the gray Bruce for example are a bit too tight for my taste.
If youre curious about the name Sorbtek, this pair of jeans comes from a recycled polyester material that comprises 24% of the jeans fabric the rest is 74% cotton and 2% elastane for that all-important stretch.

Ive seen lots of customers fall in love with a certain fabric or design details on jeans, only to force themselves into a cut that does not work with their body type, notes Chen. As Strategist writer Erin Schwartz learned from self-described denim whisperer Clotilde Testa, owner of Walk the West Vintage in Hudson, New York, you should start by knowing your waist, hip, thigh, and ideal rise measurements, which you can find by measuring either your body or a pair of jeans you already have that fits well. The rise measurement runs vertically from the crotch to the top of the waistband the larger the measurement, the higher the rise. A higher rise will place the waistband closer to your actual waist and belly button and measure more than 11 inches on average a mid-rise will sit between your waist and hips and measure between 10 and 11 inches on average and a low rise will sit more at the top of your hips.

The indigo dyed jeans are prone to color transfer and may bleed in the wash. Made with 100% cotton, its a classic pair of jeans in every sense of the word.
Peter Manning Slim Fit Jeans
Ive been wearing these Peter Manning slim fit jeans in the original blue color for several years now. These are more classic slim fits compared to the tighter, trendier Johnny Stretch jeans which Ill cover below.
The original blue color is a tried and true classic blue wash, similar to that of your dads old jeans. Not to say these are out of style, but the wash is certainly more traditional.
Its made with 100% cotton, but does have a little bit of stretch to them. The leg opening isnt slim nor wide. All in all these jeans are average in every sense of the word. I do enjoy wearing them with certain outfits, but they are not my go-to jeans by any means.

The Unbranded Brand Ub201 Selvedge Jean
The Unbranded Brand UB201 tapered fit selvedge jean is perhaps their most popular pair of jeans. If you want something a bit slimmer with more of a taper, check out the UB422 model. What I love is the lack of branding on these jeans. For the back label, theres a blank brown leather patch. Its just a no frills dark indigo wash selvedge jean.
The selvedge detail on the cuff has a blue stitch instead of the usual orange/crimson color stitching which is a nice differentiator. I can tell if its Unbranded jeans based on this small detail.
Additionally these jeans have union special chain-stitched hems and hidden back pocket rivets. Another unique detail are the copper tin rivets, buttons and button fly.
Typical of selvedge, these jeans are much thicker than your standard jeans coming in at a midweight 14.5 oz. Its a great cloth for the cooler spring, fall and winter months. I wouldnt wear these jeans during the summer.

What About Raw And Selvedge Denim
I spoke with Kiya Babzani, the co-founder of Self Edge, and Steve Cruz, the store manager at Naked & Famous Denim, to learn the differences between the denim we see in most stores versus raw selvedge denim. Heres the lowdown, per Babzani: Selvedge denim was originally called self edging fabric because the process created its own finished edge that didnt require more work to prevent fraying. Around the turn of the 15th century, workers shortened the term self edging fabric to selvedge as an abbreviation.
The terms raw and selvedge are often used interchangeably for denim, but a pair of jeans can be neither, either, or both. Selvedge refers to the finished edge of the fabric, and raw denim is the material that is unwashed and untreated, making it stiffer and more prone to bleeding indigo onto anything it touches. But it also conforms to your body over time for a unique fit and look. Uniqlo, for example, makes jeans that are selvedge stitched without being raw denim, and Levis 501 Shrink to Fit jeans are raw without being selvedge stitched.
And thats the beauty of denim, he said. If you buy a pre-distressed pair of jeans, by contrast, they may have lines all over them. But they probably wont match the natural lines that are produced by your bodys movements. They also wont be as comfortable .
