The success of fast fashion is based on imitation of fashion, the faster this imitation is the more market trends that have emerged from the fashion seasons arrive and spread to the public. The only problem: in the continuing rush to imitate great designs are turned into cheap versions of themselves. This is what happened these days at Fashion Nova, which recently put on sale a fitted sheath dress with a “thermal” print of a nude female body that is a clear copy of one of the looks from Y/Project’s collaboration with Jean-Paul Gaultier for the brand’s FW22 collection. The look had gone viral within minutes of its appearance on the runway, and this was because it reproduced a historical Gaultier print imitated by so many. Incidentally, just such a print, that of the naked dress produced by Gaultier together with Lotta Volkova, had been accused of being a plagiarism to Spanish designer Sergio Castaño Peña, who had been inspired by Gaultier himself for his designs.

A model has turned heads by wearing a £500 dress from Jean Paul Gaultier that makes her seem naked – but some people have slammed the outfit for ‘objectifying women’
A model has been seen strutting her stuff in a £500 dress by Jean Paul Gaultier that gives the illusion of being naked.
The woman wore the dress, which features a print of a completely naked woman, while walking down the street near the Chiltern Firehouse hotel in West London on Thursday, and definitely turned heads with the bold look.
But the designer dress has been slammed by some critics who have accused the fashion house of “objectifying women” with the design, as it encourages people to see women for their bodies.
Dr Charlotte Proudman, a barrister and feminist campaigner who specialises in gender-based violence, told The Sun that the dress isn’t “in keeping” with the “modern century”.

She explained: Its definitely not in keeping with what I hoped wed be seeing in the modern century were supposed to be in. Why are we needing to objectify women in this way? Women are objectified enough as it is.
However one chooses to dress, were looked at on the basis of our body rather than our ideas and here we are with an extremely expensive, sought-after designer encouraging women to objectify themselves in this way.
It’s inappropriate and Jean Paul Gaultier should know better.
One said: What about one with a man?
And someone else added: “Simply brilliant.”

Filled With Naked Dresses And Bikinis
Following its partnerships with Glenn Martens and sacais Chitose Abe, Jean Paul Gaultier has now joined forces with stylist Lotta Volkova on a new collection.
Volkova is known for her unique creative direction and aesthetic, having been one of the key names behind Vetements breakthrough as the brands in-house stylist. She has also worked with Demna for Balenciaga, in addition to Miu Mius new direction with the ever-so-popular mini skirt sets.
Celebrating her work and style, Gaultier has tapped the creative on a campy, surrealist collection of garments. A range of dresses, tops and bikinis are given a naked treatment with womens bodies printed onto the pieces for a trompe lil effect. The theme continues on a series of dresses and bralette tops with spiky boobs for a cone look, as well as S& M jackets and skirts. Other standouts include a jacket with an open back, which is paired with loose-fitted trousers, and a cropped shearling jacket with puffed sleeves.

Among her new additions to the Gaultier canon are a bondage suit, cut out at the bosom and buttocks, to reveal everything. There is also a kinky babydoll dress with pouf sleeves and opera gloves, worn in the campaign with a veil. Though the veil is just for the shoot, chances are shoppers will be clamoring for the total look. Another must-have is the dog-ready, eight-breasted cone bra corset Volkova created for her standard poodle Dimitri and his dog bride-to-be.
As for Volkovas next shocking act, shes smartly staying mum. What excites me about fashion right now is kind of what excites me about fashion always: Its ability to constantly change and for something really unexpected to become, suddenly, so desirable.

Syndical Chamber Designer Stirs Outrage Accusing Gaultier Of Stealing Naked Dress Concept

Barcelona-based Syndical Chamber designer Sergio Castaño Peña shocked fashion lovers yesterday when he accused Jean Paul Gaultier of copying his concept of a naked Trompe Loeil dress. Accusing Gaultier of stealing, Peña commented on a Jean Paul Gaultier Instagram post celebrating a naked dress made in collaboration with stylist Lotta Volkova. While Peñas comment was deleted, he liked multiple comments also accusing Gaultier of copying the dress,
Outraged users pushed back on the accusations in the comment section and on Twitter, while fashion lovers responded with posts documenting naked looks designed by Gaultier dating back to the 90s. In a tweet accompanied by images of Gaultiers naked designs over the years, popular fashion account @fashionfaquette wrote, Im disturbed that an ICON like Jean Paul Gaultier is being accused of stealing. Just because something is popularized by a brand doesnt mean its their original idea.@/syndicalchamber has been creating knock offs for months/years now. Dont EVER disrespect a legend.
Jumping in on the backlash, Jean Paul Gaultiers official Twitter account has been reposting tweets coming to his defense. Gaultier and Volkovas four-piece capsule priced from 140-590 is now sold out.
