  • My Review Of Full Panel Jeans

My favorite pair in this bunch is the Gap Maternity True Skinny Jeans. I have a size 28S which is pretty much my prepregnancy size. The S stands for short and they do come to above my ankles. These are very soft jeans and they keep their shape the best throughout the day. These pants come with loopholes, so you can add a belt for extra help keeping them up, but in general, they do a good job of staying put all day.

The second best full panel jeans I have are from Target by Liz Lange. Unfortunately, I couldnt find the pair I have, so I tried the Ingrid & Isabel pair which matched up pretty close. Very similar color to the pair I have but not as soft. I tried on a size 8 and at first, it was tight on my hip bones but after a little, it loosened up. Id go with your prepregnancy size in this brand. I really liked this pair of jeans, in fact, I was tempted to keep and not return them, but I dont need another pair of dark maternity jeans. They kept their shape very well during the time I wore them and for the most part, they stayed put. They do not have belt loops which is a downside in my book.

These were butter soft and the waistband stayed up thanks to AGs special interior button elastic band, which also means the ugly elastic isnt visible from the outside, which is a plus if your waistband is showing. The black wash also made them a perfect evening choice paired with Tabitha Simmons leopard booties.

    How My Review Works:

There are a total of six pairs of jeans, three full panels, and three side panel pairs. I will rank each pair in the two categories and discuss their pros. Then Ill share my opinions on the sizing. Basically, if they run true to prepregnancy size, or if you should size up or down. For reference, my typical prepregnancy pant size is 8, 28/29, or Medium. Then Ill go into the feel and fit, meaning their comfort and if they keep their shape. Finally, and most important to me, Ill chat about how well they stay put.

    What Are Maternity Jeans Anyway

As your baby bump grows, it can be tempting to let leggings and jeggings replace stiff jeans that constrict your belly and thighs.

Maternity jeans, however, are designed to allow for more room in the belly in one of two ways: They either have stretchy side panels and go under the belly, or a front panel, which is a piece of stretchy fabric that goes over the belly.

Pregnant people everywhere have strong opinions about which way is better, but its truly a personal choice. Some want the coverage of a front panel, while others dont want anything on their stomach due to skin sensitivity or the heat factor of an extra layer.

Sure, spending extra money on a pair of jeans youll only wear for a few months might not be at the top of a mama-to-bes to-do list. However, if your jeans can bring a little extra comfort and confidence into your pregnancy, we think its worth it.

    Can I Wear Jeans Postpartum

After you give birth, it will take a while for your uterus to shrink back to its prepregnancy size. You may also have gained some extra weight over the course of your pregnancy. For some women, this means maternity jeans will feel more comfortable than traditional jeans during the postpartum period. Its up to you when you decide to fold them up and pack them away!

Current Elliott X Hatch The Maternity Kick Flare Crop

I was searching for a not super skinny style and love the subtle kick flare. They are also great in the ivory colorway. These are the perfect pre and post jeans but not the super pregnant jeans. Instead of the elastic covering the whole pocket, this has a narrow triangle on the side seam which means they dont give a lot. They were perfect up to 5 months pregnant when I needed just a little leeway, but once I got bigger than that, they started sagging, and there is nothing less appealing than a pregnant woman yanking up her jeans. I loved the wash and cut, though, and anticipate they will be perfect for postpartum months.

    Motherhood Maternity Side

People start wearing maternity clothing at all different points in their pregnancy.

What To Look For In Maternity Jeans

    • Waistband. Maternity jeans tend to have three different types of waistbands: an under-the-bump band, side paneling or over-the-bump paneling. While the style you choose will ultimately come down to personal preference, over-the-bump paneling generally provides the smoothest support for your bump, under-the-bump waistbands can provide support from below and side paneling is the closest youll get to your regular jeans.
    • Stretch. This can be especially important with a growing body and even more important if the jeans are tight to begin with.
    • Price point. As is true with regular denim, maternity jeans range in price from super affordable to splurge status. Depending on how often youll wear your maternity jeans , youll want to consider price before doling out.

The good news? These days, there are more maternity denim options than ever and you can find stylish, comfortable picks at a range of different price points to take you from day one to delivery day.

Best MATERNITY JEANS Comparison | Cheap vs Expensive

The first thing to consider here is the waistband. For the most part, you have three options to choose from:

  • Over-the-bumpHere, youll have a built-in fabric section that provides smooth support for a growing belly, which is ideal for those who prefer high-waisted styles.
  • Under-the-bumpAlso known as demi-panel, under-the-bump pregnancy jeans come with an elastic waistband that, as youd guess, sits under the bump. The benefit is that you get sturdy support but can also hide the waistband under a flowy top.
  • Side panelSide panel maternity jeans are the closest to regular jeans of the bunch. Theres nothing different about the waistband the only difference is that the panels stretch so the jeans can grow with you over time.
  • It goes without saying that youll also want jeans made with a stretch combo of cotton, lycra, spandex, and/or elastane to get as close to maternity leggings and jeggings-level comfort as possible.

My Review Of Side Panel Jeans

My favorite pair in the side panel is the Madewell Skinny Jean Berkeley Wash. I love the look of the hem and the overall feel of the pants. I would recommend buying your pre-pregnancy size as they are true to size. They are not as soft as some of the other jeans in the bunch, but the style of the hem makes up for this for me. They keep their shape when I wear them, however, they do tend to begin to fall down after a few wears.

J Brand Super Skinny Jeans are a great pair of jeans, but they cut into my belly too much. This is the exact reason I love the full panel jean. You can basically see where the jean ends around my waist because it makes my belly bump out funny under my shirts. I found them to be incredibly soft and the perfect length. However, they did tend to fall down easily.

My least favorite maternity jeans I have come across were my 7 For All Mankind air High Waist Maternity Jeans. While they were very soft, they had a funny fit. I bought a size 29R and I felt like I was swimming in them. They were super big in my tummy and long in length. The button also hit me at an awkward spot on my belly. I am guessing this is because they were high waisted which is a funny thing for pregnant ladies.

    Types Of Maternity Jeans

Before we dive into our picks for the best maternity jeans, heres a brief breakdown of the different styles you can choose from. There are three main types of pregnancy jeans:

    • Over-the-bump jeans: Over-the-bump maternity jeans have a built-in fabric panel that covers your belly. Styles with a stretchy over-the-bump panel are a great option for moms who prefer high-waisted jeans, since they can be folded up for maximum comfort or down for early pregnancy and postpartum support.

    • Demi-panel jeans: Demi-panel maternity jeans have an elasticated waistband that sits under your baby bump. This style provides firm support, and the waistband can easily be hidden under flowy tops.

    • Side-panel jeans: Side-panel maternity jeans have discreet, stretchy panels on the sides that expand with your growing body. This style looks closest to your regular jeans and works well for moms who dont want additional support around their baby bumps.

    How To Select Your Size

Side Panel Raw Hem Skinny Maternity Jeans

So the good news? Maternity jeans abide by the same sizing conventions as regular jeans the only difference, of course, being that they leave room for growth. So go ahead and select the same size that you were pre-pregnancy. No need to scrutinize over your pregnancy size.

The not-so-good news? The size chart is incredibly arbitrary not to mention antiquated and different from brand to brand, which makes it that much trickier to actually FIND the size that works well for you pre-pregnancy, while pregnant, or postpartum. Thats where Revelle comes in.

When you join which, BTW, doesnt cost you anything well ask you a few questions about your beautiful body. From there, we work our magic to build your personal store. As you like and dislike jeans, well get to know your tastes, preferences, and style even better so you can find your perfect pair with the perfect fit for your beautiful body shape.
